Vegan Snacks: What to Snack Between Meals When You're Vegan and Don't Want to Live on Nuts
Are you vegan and don't know what to snack on between meals? Discover easy, tasty vegan snacks with no animal ingredients. Sweet and savory ideas.
Being vegan is full of benefits, but let’s be honest: when you’re hungry between meals and want a snack, it’s not always easy. You can’t just open any old bag at the supermarket. Does it contain milk? Powdered egg? Whey hidden in tiny print? Welcome to the expert level of mindful snacking.
Because no, we don’t want to live on baby carrots and unsalted nuts alone. We want to snack, enjoy ourselves, and eat well without having to read every label three times.
Why is snacking more difficult when you’re vegan?
It’s not impossible —fortunately, there are more and more options— but it’s true that many traditional snacks contain hidden animal ingredients: butter, powdered milk, egg derivatives, etc.
And of course, if you’re out and about or want something quick, it gets complicated.
That’s where the real vegan snack options come in: things you can keep at home, pack in your backpack, buy without having to sift through a million ingredients, or whip up in a snap without going crazy.
Easy Vegan Snacks
These are snacks you can easily find or keep ready at home. No fuss, no gourmet recipes, no complicated ingredients.
- Nuts and seeds. Yes, the classics. Almonds, walnuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds. But you can also try seed bars with dates, for example.
- Dried or fresh fruit with a twist. Banana, apple with (vegan, of course) peanut butter, or dried figs. If you pair it with something protein-rich, the snack will last longer.
- Dark chocolate (70% or more). Most are vegan. Just be sure to check the ingredients: sometimes they add milk.
- Hummus + crudités or pita bread. A perfect snack. Quick, healthy, and filling. It also works with vegan crackers.
- Homemade popcorn. Made in a pan or microwave, without butter, with salt, curry, paprika, or nutritional yeast.
- Vegan mini sandwiches. Whole wheat bread with avocado, sun-dried tomato, and smoked tofu. In 2 minutes you have a top-notch snack.
- Vegan Asian snacks. Rice rolls, edamame with sea salt, nori seaweed chips. They offer variety and lots of flavor.
Vegan snacks for those with a sweet tooth (dairy- and egg-free)
It’s not all about savory snacks. If you have a sweet tooth, there are plenty of vegan options that work:
- Vegan cookies. You can buy them (there are many brands available) or make them yourself with banana, oats, and dark chocolate.
- Vegan ice cream. Made with soy, oats, or coconut. Some supermarkets already have their own lines. You can also make a quick one with frozen banana and cocoa.
- Peanut butter (100% peanuts) with fruit or bread. It’s filling and contains protein. Just make sure it doesn’t contain milk or unnecessary sugar.
What if I want more “processed” or bagged vegan snacks?
Yes, there are also “less healthy” snacking options that are vegan:
- Doritos Tex-Mex (note: not all flavors)
- Pringles Original
- Oreos (yes, they are vegan)
- Vegetable Chips
- Bars like Nakd, Clif, or similar
Always pay attention to the ingredients, because many brands change their formulas. If you have any doubts, it’s best to opt for certified vegan brands or support businesses where the commitment to veganism is genuine.
The important thing: eat consciously, not obsessively
Being vegan doesn’t mean being perfect or living on raw foods. Balance is key, and snacking is also a part of the day where you can enjoy yourself guilt-free.
Whether it’s something natural, homemade, or from a bag, the key is knowing what you choose and why. And if it’s tasty, convenient, and free of animal ingredients, even better.
